Coronavirus (COVID-19) health and safety guide.

Protecting the Via community.

At Via, we’re dedicated to doing all we can to ensure that all rides are safe rides — both for our Driver Partners and riders.

While we have not received any reports of any of the services we operate around the world being affected by Coronavirus (COVID-19), we have taken a number of steps to prevent the spread and impact of the infectious disease on our community. We encourage all drivers and passengers to follow guidance issued by the CDC to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Vehicle cleanliness

As a precautionary measure, we are doing our best to distribute disinfectant wipes to all Via vehicles. To help keep you and riders safe, please follow these recommendations for cleaning your vehicle:

  • Wipe down all vehicle surfaces before you start driving and as often as possible during your shift.
  • Pay special attention to surfaces that you and passengers frequently come in contact with.
  • Be mindful of waste and use only the supplies you need, given current shortages.

Additionally, we are working with our vehicle partners to ensure cleaning and disinfection of the vehicles on an ongoing basis.

Personal care

While we have not received any reports of members of the Via community being affected by the virus, we strongly encourage you to follow guidance issued by the Centers for Disease Control to prevent the spread of COVID-19:

  • WASH YOUR HANDS FREQUENTLY — Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.
  • COVER YOUR COUGH OR SNEEZE — Use a tissue to cover your cough or sneeze (or the inside of your elbow), then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • STAY AT HOME IF YOU FEEL SICK — If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, stay home, seek medical attention if necessary, and follow the directions of your local health authority.

You can learn more about the CDC’s guidance here. We’ve established a dedicated team to monitor the situation closely, respond to any emerging issues, and cooperate fully with health authorities as needed.

Via has introduced a compensation program for independent contractor Driver Partners who are directly affected by COVID-19. If a licensed medical professional orders you to self-quarantine due to a probable COVID-19 diagnosis or exposure you may qualify for up to 14 days in compensation for lost earnings, with proper documentation. If you are an active Via Driver Partner and you test positive for COVID-19 or you are required to self-quarantine due to potential COVID-19 exposure, please notify Via immediately. You can upload any relevant documentation here.
